La Ronge at a Glance
La Ronge is located 250 km (155 mi) north of Prince
Albert on the shores of the massive Lac
La Ronge. Both the lake and surrounding provincial
park draw visitors from all over, who come to see the untapped natural beauty
of the region where cliffs, rapids, waterfalls and over 1000 treed islands dominate
the landscape. Historically, La Ronge was a busy trading post with strong ties
to Aboriginal culture, a connection which still remains today with the several
First Nations reserves that surround the community. Access to both modern amenities
in the town centre and the wild Canadian shield outside the town limits make La
Ronge a popular place for anglers
and hunters,
while sightseers will enjoy the majestic beauty of Nistowiak
Falls, Sasktchewan's largest waterfall. The largest city in Saskatchewan north
of Prince Albert, La Ronge is also home to the oldest structure in the province,
the Holy
Trinity Anglican Church, which was constructed between 1854 and 1860.
